For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
—- [John 3:16, NKJV]
It is difficult to summarise what we stand for and believe in just a short statement, but I will give it a try. I am no theologian, so this is simply an attempt by an average christian who loves God and has walked with Him long enough to know just how powerful He is, just how gracious He is, and just how perfect He is.
Alright, here goes; God, please grant your child wisdom, grace and eloquence…
When God created people, He created us as creatures of free will, that we might have a relationship with Him. Our sin broke that relationship (a). The penalty for a single sin (of which all are guilty and have plenty of) is death and separation from God (b). Not a single one of us is perfect (c). But God loved His creation so much that He was willing to sacrifice His only begotten son- Jesus Christ- to pay the price with His blood- so that we could once more have that relationship with Him if we so choose to (d).
Jesus Christ is God in human flesh. He is fully God and fully man (p). He came to earth and died in our stead to pay the price for our sins so that we may have eternity with Him in heaven if we only believe in Him, repent of our sins, ask Him to come into our hearts and accept the gift of salvation, freely given to us through His love and grace. Salvation cannot be bought or earned (q). It is by God’s grace alone. It is not a gift without cost, but it was freely given to us nonetheless.
Now before we go any further I must clarify something that basic language and the human mind struggle to properly comprehend- because God is God, not a human, and it is impossible to fully comprehend God. Allow me to attempt to explain it in a way that might begin to make a little sense.
God ‘the Father’, Jesus Christ ‘the Son’, and the Holy spirit are one being (r). One. Sort of like three sides to one triangle. He is not three Gods. We refer to this very limited, human understanding of God as the Holy Trinity. That is hard to wrap your head around, but it does make sense.
The Holy Trinity is God. God is one being.
God, though powerful and mighty, is very kind- He forces His love upon no one. If you do not want Him, He will not force you to be with Him because to do so would be to break your free will (e)- and frankly that is His right too, but it is not what His righteousness, holiness and compassion will allow. It is not what He wants. God is moving daily to soften and change hard and broken hearts that we might hear Him (f). Why? Because God never wanted Hell for you. It was made for Satan and His demons when they were cast down (g).
But there is a judgement owed for sin- that thing we all have- and God being holy, cannot abide the evil of sin. The judgement owed is death eternal- hell (h). That is the price Jesus paid- His death on the cross and resurrection was payment for our sins (i). He did not break His own law- he fulfilled it on our behalf (j).
Hell being the consequence for sin is not a threat- simply the lay of the land, and God being holy, just and loving, wants to make sure you understand the nature of things before you make your decisions. It is why He has given us His Word spoken through the Bible. Your decisions have eternal consequences because if you choose not to repent and accept the payment made on your behalf by Jesus’ death and resurrection, then you will leave this life still clothed in sin (k).
God loves you very much. He does not want Hell for you. You were, however, made of free will. Ultimately, He has paved a way home for you, to spend eternity in heaven with Him, but you are the one who must decide if that is or is not what you want (l).
The Bible- or the scriptures if you prefer- is God breathed- God inspired; a living Word and is written and given to us that we might know how things really are, how things were meant to be, what is yet to come and how to navigate this broken world we live in, in such a way that we do right by God and the message of the good news He has called us to pour out to every person on this earth (m). It is to be studied, questioned and understood daily, that we might know God’s will, and walk in it (n).
He never stops speaking through his Word (o).
God loves you and has plans that are good- things you have not yet even begun to comprehend (s). He didn’t leave you or forsake you (t). He is waiting for you to make your choice and doing all He can to show you why He is good, why sin ends terribly and just how much He has done just so that you have a way home to Him. He wants to help and bless you. Then He wants you to help and bless others so that they might choose to come home too (u).
If you would like to discuss any part of this further or have any questions about God or the Bible please feel free to contact us or get in touch with your local Bible based church. I’m sure they would love to answer whatever question you have upon your heart.
May God bless you and be with you all.
